The Food Center is also the focus of services provided to our local WIC recipients and the Taos Pueblo Senior Diabetes Prevention Program (TPSDPP). The connection between the importance of growing food and livestock and preparing healthy and nutritious meals are emphasized in these programs. This outreach is key for families to experience the “fruits” and value of local small farms and ranches. Over 40 families or 120 individuals receiving WIC vouchers took part in harvesting fruits and vegetables from TCEDC’s garden, greenhouse and orchard and preparing meals to share.
